WSCOC
Thankgiving Dinner
and Coat Drive
For many of us the onset of cool weather means going through closets full of coats and winter clothing, making piles of “fits” and “not fits”. However, for some in our community cooler weather means sending their children out with nothing, because there is no coat in the closet.
Each year, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Walnut Street Church of Christ hosts a free community meal and coat give-away for those in need. Due to tough economic times, last year’s turnout was the largest since the event’s beginning 14 years ago. Approximately 4,500 winter clothing items (coats, hats, mittens, etc.) were given away during the 2009 event, and we’re anticipating an even greater need in 2010.
Finding that many winter clothing items to give away is difficult, but God always provides. Always. Donations of clothing items are so important to the success of this event. We accept gently used coats, hats, mittens, scarves, sweatshirts and winter shoes. Thanks for your generosity!
